Pope Leo XIV signed his encyclical on AI, “Magnifica Humanitas” (“Magnificent Humanity”), 135 years to the day after another Pope Leo published “Rerum Novarum” (“Of New Things”) in 1891. The earlier document has provided the foundation for the Catholic church’s social doctrine, and the latest encyclical could be equally consequential.
