Never get in the way of a parent on a mission

Never get in the way of a parent on a mission.

Most never expected to have one. They were busy raising their children, building careers, getting on with life. Then a problem reached their child and became impossible to ignore. They stepped forward because someone had to, and once they did, there was no stepping back.

I’ve spent the last several years at Project Liberty working alongside organizations committed to building a healthier digital future. Over these years, my son moved from first grade into early adolescence, navigating new questions about independence, friendship, and what it means to grow up online.

As Executive Director of the Project Liberty Alliance, I meet parent advocates every week. They run nonprofits, organize neighbors, lobby legislators, and walk other families through a tech landscape that keeps shifting underfoot. Their careers and politics often have little in common. Yet they land in the same room because a problem reached their family, and they responded with purpose.

They join a long line of parents who saw something wrong and refused to wait for someone else to fix it.
